Tons of bands come out of southern California but not too many with staying power. But,from the first moment of listening to the Airborne Toxic Event’s self titled first release I was sucked in! The swelling musical intros draw you in. A feel that is a little reminiscent of the National but more raw, they are a band that just exudes an effortlessly cool vibe.

Lead singer Mikel’s vocals are scratchy, sexy and incredibly heartfelt in songs like Sometime Around Midnight and Innocence. And they’ve got other songs that just make you want to get up and dance like Missy and Gasoline.

They’ve got an incredible mix of guitars driving drums and strings and I’m not talking about high school orchestra strings! Classically trained violinist, Anna, is not only the token chick of the group, but she offers up some fantasticly floaty background vocals and is just the coolest of the cool!
In a recent interview U2 was asked about bands they were watching and they named only one- The Airborne Toxic Event! I mean come on when U2 says they are a band to look out for I am SOOOO in!
